Cat Creek Gardens evolved out of a need in the urban environment we live in to have something green and growing around me that wasn’t a lawn and a handful of tired shrubs and the same old Lowe’s variety flowers. As we looked into more organic methods, the knowledge began to transfer itself to other parts of our life. I was working as a personal chef at the time, and many of my customers wanted organic fresh produce in their foods. So we decided to start our own urban farm, and produce as much naturally grown produce as possible right here on a standard city lot in the middle of a nearly 1 million person city. In addition to the Gardens, we are also in the process of making our entire property more self-sufficient. We collect rainwater for the gardens, use passive solar, recycle and other environmentally friendly methods. Future projects include solar remodeling, a solar shower, and composting toilets.
